Description / Expertise

D297. A particularly fine gilded cannelee (a variant of the gorge)cased carriage clock,
number 1425, which strikes and repeats the hours on a gong. It has three particularly well detailed panels which are all surrounded by a gilt border decorated with blue and white stones and outside this is a pink band.

The white chapter ring with black numerals, is a fine feature, with groups of blue and red stones denoting each half hour mark. Behind the chapter ring is depicted a room with boys at the bottom, one sitting on the floor and the other one reading a book. To the centre is shown a room with jars and wood piled up. One side panel shows a mother feeding her child whilst a dog, standing in the background, in front of a barrel, looks on.

The other panel shows a mother and child in a hay barn with chickens in the foreground. It is rare to see panels with so much detail as these ones. £6,950
