D232. A late 19th century gong striking and repeating carriage clock with beautifully executed enamel side panels and dial, complete with alarm which, most unusually, is set by rotating the hand set against an enamelled dial raised up from the backplate. There is a good quality lever escapement with silvered platform.

The dial has an enamelled chapter ring with roman numerals surrounded by a gilt ring and having a matching centre. Above the dial is a ribbon tied bow with a smaller swag of flowers below draped down either side of the chapter ring and arched over the top of the picture of a young lady below.

The side panels, ( with restoration to the backgrounds), contains a ribbon tied bow above a swag of flowers which drape around beautifully executed pictures of young girls, one wearing a red dress and with flowers in her hair. Below are a tambourine, pan pipes, a horn and other musical instruments. The other panel is similarly decorated but with a stylised bow and quiver.

Height with/without handle:- 6.3" /4.7" ( 16/11 cms.) £2,950.
