Carriage clocks by Derek Roberts Fig4-10

Description / Expertise

D188. Perrin Paris. An early and rare fully engraved and gilded carriage clock with solid back door, signed on the dial and backplate, circa 1840.
This early and very high quality carriage clock is virtually identical to the one by Auguste which is illustrated in Carriage Clocks by Derek Roberts, Fig 4-10. The whole case, including the recessed dial mask, solid back door and handle are covered in finely executed engraving. The beautifully conceived and executed handle is a particularly fine feature.

The white enamelled dial has very delicate roman numerals and hands and is signed by Perrin immediately below 6o’clock. The movement, numbered on the backplate 127 and signed along the bottom edge, employs rack strike on a bell and has a deeply recessed and tiered platform escapement with a round subframe and helical spring to the lever escapement.

Height with/without handle. 7.3"/5.5" 918.3/14 cms.) £4,650.
